make a difference. start to ripple.

What’s an 8 Minute Ripple?

The 8 Minute Ripple is not your typical business networking function. In fact it is quite the opposite! This connection building event successfully demonstrates one of my long held contentions that relationships (especially those in business) can be significantly enhanced when people step outside their traditional boxes and connect as individuals. Participants witness the fun and unpredictable connections that can develop by crossing paths with those they might not ordinarily meet.

How is this really different than other networking?

As discussed in the book it is the emergent, unplanned benefits of random connections and the relationships that develop that will make your life (personal and professional) a success.

That’s the same philosophy that is applied to the format of The 8 Minute Ripple.

Specifically, traditional business networking functions, are all about posturing and performance. Most rarely give you a glimpse of the true person you are meeting. Most people do the same old tired lines of "So what do you do?" exchange business cards and rarely do the necessary follow up to make the interaction a profitable one. Our event is WAY different!

We create an environment that is fun, interactive and far more likely to yield a positive result for all concerned. Through this form of interaction, participants have a truer appreciation for the people they meet, discover potential connection points, common interests and opportunities for further interaction. As one participant suggested, its like putting accelerant on the relationship. We couldn’t agree more!

GenAustin Press Release

BRAND YOUR BUSINESS TO SURVIVE AND THRIVE

AUSTIN, TX April 10, 2009Standing apart from the crowd has become a matter of survival.  With the economy at its lowest point in decades, it is becoming increasingly crucial for businesses to maximize their resources by marketing themselves in an effective and calculated manner.  A unique brand is a necessary part of this process.  Looking to address how branding works in today’s volatile economy, the Girls Empowerment Network of Austin (GENaustin), will host a fundraising event, “Redefining Your Brand Image,” featuring Kerry Tate, former CEO and President of THE powerhouse public relations firm, TateAustinHahn.  This event takes place on Friday, April 10th, from 8:00 – 9:30 AM at the Mexican American Cultural Center.

“We'll explore how people, places and things build reputation; an identity something quite different than recognition.  It's what most of us wish we had known as young leaders in this world,” said TateAustinHahn Senior Council Kerry Tate.

Tate has helped create recognizable brands and marketing campaigns for Austin Energy, Whole Foods, and First Night Austin.  During her discussion she will be addressing how to create a brand, the importance of brand placement in the marketplace, the positioning of a brand in the workplace, and how the development of personal identity as a "brand image" can impact the future success of Generation Y and beyond.  Joining Tate will be Steve Harper, acclaimed author of The Ripple Effect, an innovative book on connection building and social and professional networking.

“With a change in the economic and political environment in our country, Kerry Tate brings a unique perspective on how to re-brand ourselves in preparation for the future,” said GENaustin Executive Director, Julia Cuba.

Individual tickets may be purchased for $25.  In addition, memberships to GENerate, GENaustin’s educational networking group, are available for $300, and include access to a full year’s worth of GENerate events.  Proceeds of GENerate go directly to GENaustin’s programs which serve the girls of central Texas.

Visit www.genaustin.org for more information.

This event is open to the media.
